A central inter-ministerial team will visit the disaster-affected areas of Uttarkashi next week to assess the damage and plan further rescue and relief operations. The team, comprising experts from various ministries, will also strategize on long-term recovery efforts in the region.
Additionally, a joint team of the Indian Army and state authorities will be deployed to monitor the drainage of the lake formed in the upper Bhagirathi region due to the cloudburst.
On Thursday, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) reviewed ongoing relief and rescue efforts in Dharali with state officials. NDMA Director Rajendra Singh stated that the authority is closely monitoring the rescue operations and will provide all necessary support to Uttarakhand.
He assured that the central government will extend full financial assistance for reconstruction efforts in Dharali. The inter-ministerial team will visit the affected areas next week to conduct a preliminary damage assessment.
The NDMA also recommended sending a joint team of the army and state agencies to monitor the newly formed lake in Harsil’s upper region and facilitate safe drainage. Secretary of Disaster Management Vinod Kumar Suman confirmed that water is currently being drained from the lake and an inspection team has already reviewed the site.
Top officials from the Army, ITBP, NDRF, BRO, Air Force, IMD, and other departments participated in the meeting to coordinate future rescue strategies. NDMA member Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Syed Ata Hasnain, ACEO Administration Anand Swaroop, and SEO Implementation Rajkumar Negi were also present.
