A devastating cloudburst in Dharali village of Uttarkashi district triggered a massive flash flood in the Khirganga area, resulting in the death of at least four people and leaving many others missing under debris. The sudden surge of water and mud swept through the village late last night, destroying buildings, shops, and hotels. Dharali’s main market has been reduced to rubble.
District Magistrate Prashant Arya confirmed the fatalities and said several others are feared trapped. Panic gripped the village as floodwaters rushed in, with locals screaming for help while debris flowed into homes and businesses.
Rescue operations are ongoing with the Army, SDRF, police, and other teams deployed swiftly. Additional rescue forces from ITBP and NDRF have also been sent to the affected area. Three ITBP teams and four NDRF teams are en route to join the efforts.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed deep sorrow over the disaster and assured that all available resources are being used for relief and rescue. He said he is in constant touch with senior officials to monitor the situation closely.
The disaster control room is actively coordinating operations, and teams are working on a war footing to locate and evacuate survivors. So far, several people have been rescued safely from the flood-hit region.
Meanwhile, another cloudburst was reported near Suki Top on the same route from Harsil. However, no casualties or property damage have been reported from there so far. Officials are maintaining strict vigilance in the area due to the continuing heavy rainfall and rising water levels.
