Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami reviewed the situation in Syana Chatti with Disaster Management Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman after a temporary lake formed near Kupra village due to debris flow. He directed officials to expedite measures for safe water discharge in coordination with the district administration and assured locals that all possible steps are being taken to normalize the situation.
Dhami instructed SDRF, NDRF, and the Irrigation Department to work on a war footing for channelization of the blocked water. Teams from PWD, SDRF, and other agencies are engaged in controlled discharge, and officials confirmed that the lake’s water level is gradually receding.
The Disaster Management Secretary said partial water flow has started, but channelization is difficult due to marshy terrain. Alternative options are under review, while drone surveillance is monitoring the affected area. Preventive arrangements have been made for local residents.
A Central Water Commission team is also on-site, closely monitoring Yamuna’s water level. Irrigation officials stated that the river has started flowing along the obstruction site, reducing the water level. The State Emergency Operations Centre is also tracking the developments and has assured immediate supply of extra resources if required.
According to official data, 19 hotels, several shops, two residential buildings affecting 10 families, a GMVN guest house, cooperative society building, a primary school, Rajkrishna Temple, Syana Chatti police post, NH bridge, and Patwari office have been inundated.
