Uttarkashi District Hospital has been honored with the Best Eco-Friendly Award for the year 2023-24 under the Kayakalp Program, which was initiated by the Government of India in 2014 to encourage cleanliness and environmental sustainability in hospitals, following the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The district hospital was awarded first place in the state, receiving a prize of ₹13 lakh.
The Kayakalp Award evaluation was conducted in three phases by district and state-level teams, as per the criteria set by the Government of India. The first phase involved internal assessments, the second phase was a peer assessment, and the third phase was an external qualified assessment. The evaluation focused on cleanliness, biomedical waste management, infection control practices, hygiene promotion, and the quality of services in the hospital’s OPD and IPD departments.
