A major landslide occurred near Pali Gad on the Yamunotri Highway late last night due to heavy rainfall, completely halting vehicular movement. As a result, hundreds of pilgrims heading towards Yamunotri Dham have been stuck on both sides of the blocked route since morning.
In response, the National Highways Authority has deployed machinery at the site, and debris removal work is underway. However, traffic remains suspended, causing significant inconvenience to the pilgrims.
Other parts of the state are also witnessing the impact of continuous rain. The Rishikesh-Badrinath Highway is blocked near Sirohbagad, and the Rudraprayag-Gaurikund Highway remains obstructed near Sonprayag. Additionally, the Badrinath Highway at Bhanerpani near Pipalkoti is also blocked due to debris. All these sites have long queues of vehicles as travelers wait for the weather to clear.
The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall in parts of Dehradun and Nainital districts, and an orange alert for Bageshwar. Light rain with thunder is expected in other districts as well. Rain and lightning are likely to persist across Uttarakhand until July 3, prompting the need for heightened caution among both travelers and local authorities.
