Uttarkashi: Protest in flood-hit Syana Chatti, DM reaches by raft amid public anger

In Uttarkashi, tension escalated on Wednesday as residents of Syana Chatti staged a protest while standing in submerged areas near the Yamunotri bridge. The village was flooded due to a lake formed on the Yamuna River, leaving large parts of the area waterlogged.

Villagers held the district administration responsible and raised slogans against officials. The situation turned tense when District Magistrate, the local MLA, and the District Panchayat President reached the site by raft but faced strong opposition from disaster-hit residents.

The DM assured villagers that the artificial lake would be opened soon and promised all possible assistance. Teams from PWD, SDRF, the Irrigation Department, and other agencies have been working on-site to release water safely. Officials confirmed that the water level of the lake has already reduced by about two feet within the last hour.
