Ahead of the Vice Presidential election scheduled for September 9, opposition parties have planned a mock voting session to familiarise their MPs with the polling process. According to INDIA bloc sources, the exercise will be held on Monday afternoon at 2:30 pm in the Central Hall of Parliament. Later in the evening, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge will host a dinner for opposition MPs at the Parliament Annexe.
This election comes after the resignation of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar. The contest will be between NDA’s candidate, senior BJP leader and Maharashtra Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan from Tamil Nadu, and opposition nominee, former Supreme Court judge B. Sudarshan Reddy from Telangana.
As announced by Returning Officer and Rajya Sabha Secretary General P.C. Mody, voting will take place on September 9 from 10 am to 5 pm in Room No. F-101, Vasudha, inside Parliament House. Counting of votes will begin at 6 pm the same evening, with results to be declared immediately.
In total, 781 active members of Parliament out of 788 will be eligible to vote, including 233 elected Rajya Sabha members, 12 nominated members, and 543 elected Lok Sabha members.
