Voter List Revision Campaign Launched in Uttarakhand; Last Date to Apply is March 22 Before Panchayat Elections

The Uttarakhand Election Commission has launched a special campaign for voter list revision in preparation for the upcoming three-tier Panchayat elections. The campaign allows eligible voters to add, correct, or remove names from the voter list until March 22.

State Election Commissioner Sushil Kumar held a video conference with district officials and Panchayat Raj officers to review the progress of the campaign running from March 1 to 22. Instructions were given for public display of voter lists at the Panchayat level to enable excluded voters to register their names. Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will participate in Gram Panchayat meetings to receive applications for additions, deletions, or corrections in the voter list.

Chief Development Officers were directed to involve representatives, social workers, and media for wider outreach. During the review, Chambauli, Tehri Garhwal, and Udham Singh Nagar districts were found to have significant errors in their lists and were ordered to re-verify them. Meanwhile, the efforts of Nainital and Almora districts were appreciated. Additionally, the readiness of ballot boxes, election materials, and polling stations was also reviewed.

The Election Commission has invited suggestions from senior political leaders to improve the voting process. States’ Chief Electoral Officers must submit reports by March 31 to ensure smooth conduct of elections.
