A tragic accident occurred on the Badrinath Highway near Patalganga on Monday morning when a large boulder, dislodged by heavy overnight rain, fell onto a moving car. The impact claimed the life of a woman from Haryana, while her husband and daughter sustained injuries and were rushed to the Pipal Koti Hospital.
According to officials, heavy rainfall in the area since late Sunday evening triggered multiple landslides along the highway, making travel extremely dangerous. Upon receiving information about the incident, teams from the police and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) reached the site promptly.
District Magistrate Sandeep Tiwari confirmed the incident and stated that debris continues to block several sections of the route, posing significant risk to commuters. Authorities have urged travellers to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary movement along landslide-prone zones during the current spell of heavy rain.
