During Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s visit to the disaster-affected areas of Dharali in Uttarkashi, an emotional moment unfolded on Friday that moved everyone present. A woman who was stranded during the recent disaster tore off a piece of her sari and tied it as a rakhi on the Chief Minister’s wrist, leaving him visibly emotional.
Dhangauri Baroliya, a resident of Isanpur in Ahmedabad, had come with her family for Gangotri darshan. On August 5, the sudden disaster in Dharali changed everything for them. Heavy debris and a powerful water flow blocked the routes, leaving them stranded with no way forward. Far from home and surrounded by uncertainty, fear gripped the atmosphere.
Under the leadership of CM Dhami, swift rescue and relief efforts began. Despite the difficult conditions, rescue teams worked tirelessly and safely evacuated Dhangauri and her family. For the first time, there was relief and hope on the faces that had been filled with fear.
On Friday, as CM Dhami inspected the ground-level situation in Dharali, Dhangauri couldn’t hold back her gratitude. Tears welled up in her eyes—not of fear, but of deep trust and thankfulness. She stepped forward, tore a piece of her sari, and tied it around the CM’s wrist like a rakhi. The heartfelt gesture overwhelmed everyone, including the Chief Minister.
CM Dhami later said the rakhi was an invaluable blessing and a reminder of the deep emotional connection between the people and those serving them in times of crisis.
