Women and Small Farmers to Get Priority in New Sugarcane Supply Policy

The Sugarcane Development and Sugar Industry Department has released the sugarcane supply and allocation policy for the 2025-26 crushing season, introducing a new provision that gives priority to women and small-scale farmers for the first time.

Commissioner Trilok Singh Martolia stated that women farmers will be given 20 percent priority in sugarcane supply at the start of the crushing season. Along with this, small farmers will also receive preference. Farmers with up to 99 quintals of sugarcane will receive their slips in the first and second fortnights, while those with 100 to 144 quintals will get them within the first three fortnights.

Additionally, considering the damage caused to sugarcane crops by natural disasters in 2023-24, the basic quota will be determined based on the higher of either the average supply made in two or three crushing seasons. The commissioner emphasized that the main aim of this policy is to ensure timely issuance of slips and prompt payment for sugarcane, thereby boosting production and improving farmers’ income.
