Women Drivers to Offer Free Rides for a Week in Dehradun Under ‘Saarthi’ Project

To mark International Women’s Day, the Uttarakhand government will launch its pilot project ‘Saarthi,’ deploying 14 women drivers on the streets of Dehradun. These drivers will offer free rides to women for one week. Currently, the transport department is providing them with training, after which they will receive licenses and employment opportunities.

The initiative will begin with two e-taxis, two e-auto rickshaws, and ten e-scooters. Minister for Women Empowerment and Child Development, Rekha Arya, will inaugurate the service by taking the first ride. The project will involve coordination with the transport department and the police to ensure smooth and secure operations.

Employment Opportunities for Economically Weak Women
Minister Arya stated that the project will expand to other cities in the state after six months. Priority will be given to economically weaker women, widows, and abandoned women for employment under this scheme.
