Uttarakhand: Women Sarathi Project to Launch in Dehradun, Boosting Women’s Empowerment

Dehradun is set to launch the Women Sarathi Project, enabling women drivers to transport passengers similarly to ride-hailing services like Ola and Uber. Women Empowerment and Child Development Minister Rekha Arya announced that economically weaker, widowed, and deserted women will be given priority under this initiative.

The Transport Department will provide driving training and licenses to women participants. Vehicles will be arranged through a CSR fund from a partner organization and the Nirbhaya Fund, ensuring that beneficiaries incur no costs.

A professional mobile app will be developed to facilitate ride bookings, offering a user experience similar to popular ride-hailing platforms. The app will include GPS tracking and other safety features to ensure passenger and driver security, with significant roles assigned to the police and transport departments.

Several women have already received driving training as part of the pilot project in Dehradun. A presentation involving senior officials, including Secretary Chandresh Yadav, Director Prashant Arya, Deputy Director Vikram Singh, Mohit Chaudhary, Aarti Balodi, and Uday Pratap Singh, will be held soon to finalize the operational details.
