Women’s Self-Help Groups to Collect House Tax in Unique Municipal Initiative in Kotdwar

Kotdwar Municipal Corporation has launched a new initiative where women associated with self-help groups will handle the distribution of property tax bills and assist in tax collection. In return, the corporation will provide them with incentive payments.

The announcement was made during a workshop under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Urban Livelihood Mission, held at the Municipal Corporation auditorium. Women linked to self-help groups participated in the event, where they were trained on sanitation practices, user charges, door-to-door waste collection, and methods of house tax collection.

Officials informed the participants that a certain percentage of the collected user charges and property tax will be given to the groups as compensation. This model is expected to support women’s livelihood while improving the city’s cleanliness.

Mayor Shailendra Singh Rawat stated that women would also distribute tax notices and receive incentives in return. He added that self-help groups securing the top four ranks in sanitation performance will be honored on national festivals. Municipal Commissioner P.L. Shah, along with other officials and employees, was also present at the event.
