Players Troubled by Hostel Shortage During Wushu Asian World Championship Trials in Uttarakhand

The year 2025 has brought new hope for Uttarakhand’s athletes with major sporting events like the 38th National Games being hosted in the state. As world-class sports infrastructure develops in the region, players from across India are eager to compete here. However, a major hurdle is troubling participants—the lack of proper hostel facilities.

Ongoing trials for the Wushu Asian World Championship are being held at Maharana Pratap Sports College, where around 600 athletes from junior and senior categories are participating. Due to the absence of government accommodation, athletes are being forced to stay in private hotels, bearing heavy expenses for lodging and meals.

Participants revealed that the trials will continue until May 6, and staying in hotels for five days is financially burdensome. Despite the international-standard facilities at the venue providing a world-class experience, athletes emphasized that the government must arrange dedicated sports hostels. Affordable accommodation and food would greatly benefit players coming from different parts of the country and promote Uttarakhand as a truly inclusive sporting hub.
