Traffic on the Yamunotri Highway remains suspended for the fourth consecutive day due to sinking stretches and falling boulders. Executive Engineer Manoj Rawat said that continuous soil erosion and rockfall are making restoration difficult, though efforts are underway to clear the route.
At Syana Chatti, the issue of a temporary lake formed on the Yamuna River persists. Although the river is flowing along one side, debris and boulders from Kupda Khad and nearby streams have raised the riverbed, creating repeated blockages. Irrigation Department EE Panni Lal stated that heavy silt deposits at the confluence of Kupda Khad and the Yamuna are causing recurrent problems, with machinery being deployed for clearance.
Meanwhile, the Gangotri Highway has also been blocked near Naluna due to a major landslide. Officials said machinery is working at the site, but continuous sliding is delaying restoration of traffic movement.
