The Yamunotri Highway in Uttarkashi has remained closed for the past 17 days, severely affecting connectivity for nearby villages. During this period, a medical emergency arose in Kharsali village, where a 19-year-old pregnant woman named Ritika developed severe complications.
According to Dr. Hardev Singh Panwar, in-charge of Jankichatti health centre, Ritika experienced labour pain but could not be taken to a hospital by road due to the highway closure. The district administration arranged helicopter services, and she was airlifted to AIIMS Rishikesh for urgent medical treatment.
