Yamunotri: Pilgrims visiting Yamunotri Dham will soon enjoy a smoother journey as the National Highways Authority has submitted a revised proposal to upgrade the Paligad-Jankichatti road to a double lane. The project, estimated to cost ₹425 crore, has been sent to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways for approval.
The Paligad-Jankichatti route spans approximately 23 km and is currently a single-lane road. Initially, a proposal to widen it to 12 feet was rejected by the High Power Committee. Subsequently, a revised plan for a 10-foot-wide double-lane road with an estimated cost of ₹425 crore was drafted.
The project also includes a 4-km-long tunnel in the Ojri area, which will significantly ease travel to Yamunotri Dham. Work is expected to begin in the new year, offering much-needed relief to pilgrims and tourists alike.
