In a significant move to improve healthcare services in Haridwar, the state government has secured approval for 100 medical seats for the soon-to-be-operational Haridwar Medical College. With this new development, residents of Haridwar will no longer need to travel to other cities for medical care. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda for their support in this initiative.
After establishing government medical colleges in Dehradun, Srinagar, and Haldwani, the government has now turned its focus to Haridwar. Despite being a major district, Haridwar has long faced a shortage of medical professionals. Thanks to the persistent efforts of Chief Minister Dhami and Health Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat, construction of the Haridwar Medical College is underway. Last month, the National Medical Commission (NMC) inspected the site and pointed out a few shortcomings, which have since been addressed. Now, the college has received approval for 100 MBBS seats in its initial phase.

The new medical college is expected to benefit the district’s large population. Until now, residents had to rely on AIIMS Rishikesh and hospitals in Dehradun for healthcare. The opening of this college will provide much-needed relief to the local population in the coming years.
