In a crackdown under Operation Prahar, Haridwar police arrested a Bangladeshi woman for illegally residing in India using forged identity documents. The action was taken in the Jwalapur area during a verification drive conducted by a joint team of police and Local Intelligence Unit (LIU).

Senior Superintendent of Police Navneet Singh said the woman was found in suspicious circumstances near Vaishnavi Enclave, close to Ramanand College. During questioning, she admitted to concealing her identity and staying in India without valid authorization.

Police investigation revealed that her real name is Sahela Begum, a resident of Comilla in Bangladesh. She reportedly came in contact with a man named Shyamdas through social media in 2023. Following his instructions, she entered India and continued to stay illegally even after her visa expired. She initially stayed in Delhi before shifting to Haridwar.

The Haridwar fake documents case further revealed that after arriving in the city, she obtained several forged Indian documents. These included Aadhaar card, PAN card, driving licence, Indian passport, and a marriage certificate, allegedly prepared with the help of her associate.

Police recovered her original Bangladeshi passport and national identity card along with multiple fake Indian documents. A differently-abled man who allegedly assisted in preparing these forged documents has also been arrested in connection with the case.
