Char Dham Yatra 2026: 7000 Police, 16 Zones, High-Level Security Plan Finalised

Preparations for Char Dham Yatra 2026 have intensified as Uttarakhand Director General of Police Deepam Seth chaired a high-level review meeting to assess security, traffic, and disaster management arrangements. The meeting was held at Police Headquarters, Dehradun, with district officials joining online to present their action plans.

The Char Dham Yatra 2026 will see the deployment of around 7000 police personnel across the pilgrimage routes and temple areas. The entire region has been divided into 16 super zones, 43 zones, and 149 sectors to ensure effective management. Senior officers, including two Additional Director Generals and four Inspectors General, have been assigned to conduct ground inspections across all major shrines and routes.

IG Garhwal Range Rajiv Swaroop has been appointed as the nodal officer for Char Dham Yatra 2026. An integrated control room has been established to monitor security, traffic, crowd, and disaster management round the clock. Authorities said the system will ensure better coordination among departments during the Yatra.

To strengthen security, Anti-Terrorism Squad teams will be deployed at key locations, and mock drills will be conducted regularly to test emergency response. CCTV surveillance has been expanded with 92 cameras at temple premises and 1168 cameras along the routes. Additionally, 15 drones will be used for aerial monitoring.

Traffic management plans include identification of 118 parking sites, along with mapping of 52 bottlenecks, 109 landslide-prone areas, 274 accident-prone zones, and 61 black spots. Real-time traffic and weather updates will be shared with pilgrims through mobile alerts.

For pilgrims’ convenience, 57 tourist police centres and 48 halting points have been set up along the routes. Offline registration centres have also been arranged, while strict verification of hotels, dhabas, transport operators, and other service providers has been ordered.

Disaster response teams have been deployed at multiple points, including SDRF, NDRF, fire services, and water police units. Authorities stated that quick response mechanisms will be ensured to handle emergencies like landslides or road blockages.

The Char Dham Yatra 2026 will also be closely monitored on social media. Officials have been instructed to take strict action against misleading posts. The Special Task Force will keep watch on fake registration and helicopter booking websites to prevent cyber fraud.

Strict standard operating procedures will be enforced regarding the use of mobile phones, cameras, and drones in temple premises. Content creators and vloggers will also be monitored to maintain security and decorum.

Officials said the Char Dham Yatra 2026 is a major religious event attracting lakhs of pilgrims, and ensuring their safety and smooth travel remains the top priority for the administration.
