Severe weather conditions have caused widespread damage in Pithoragarh, with heavy rain and strong winds disrupting normal life across the district. On Saturday, the town recorded 48 mm rainfall along with intense hailstorm, leading to multiple incidents of damage.
In New Bhatkot area, a recently constructed municipal road was washed away, putting a nearby house at risk. A power pole also collapsed, resulting in electricity disruption in the locality. Residents have raised concerns over the quality of construction and demanded immediate action from authorities.
On Sunday, strong winds impacted several parts of the district. In Berinag, a large tree fell on a house in Sangod village, damaging the roof. In Pipli village, a tea stall was completely destroyed due to the storm.
In Didihat, the roof of a banquet hall was blown away, while several trees were uprooted in surrounding areas. Traffic was also affected on the Pithoragarh–Jhulaghat Road after a tree fell near Bagartoli, blocking the route for nearly an hour.
Other areas, including Gaurihat, also reported damage to residential structures. Continuous rainfall and storms over the past week have led to landslides, damaged roads, and fallen trees, severely affecting daily life across the district.
