An Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) team is expected to visit the ancient Shiv temple located in Khaggu Sarai, Sambhal, on Friday to collect samples for carbon dating. On Thursday, a revenue department team led by the Naib Tehsildar measured the temple’s premises and surrounding pathways, marking key areas.
District Magistrate Dr. Rajendra Pansiya had earlier requested ASI to investigate the temple and an adjacent well’s antiquity. The temple came to light during an anti-encroachment drive following violence on December 14. Municipal Executive Officer Manibhushan Tiwari indicated that the temple and the well could be over 200 years old, though carbon dating will provide precise historical data.
The administration has announced that the removal of encroachments around the temple will commence soon. The findings from the carbon dating process will validate the temple’s historical significance, strengthening conservation efforts.
