Dehradun: The Uttarakhand government has directed a comprehensive fire safety audit of all government and private buildings across the state to strengthen fire prevention measures and improve public safety.
Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan has instructed all secretaries and district magistrates to conduct special surveys of high-rise buildings, crowded areas, structures located in narrow lanes, and premises that lack safe emergency exit routes.
District magistrates have been asked to carry out on-site inspections of sensitive buildings and vulnerable locations in their respective districts. The objective of the exercise is to identify fire-related risks and prevent potential incidents that could endanger lives and property.
Special Focus on High-Risk Buildings
Under the directions issued by the Chief Secretary, authorities will assess fire safety arrangements in locations considered highly vulnerable during emergencies. Buildings with inadequate evacuation facilities and those situated in congested areas will receive special attention during the survey process.
Departments Directed to Conduct Fire Safety Audits
All government departments have been instructed to undertake detailed fire safety audits within their jurisdictions. Officials have been directed to identify shortcomings and ensure that fire safety standards are implemented without delay wherever deficiencies are found.

The state government has also emphasized strict compliance with safety regulations. Officials have been asked to ensure that no negligence is tolerated and that necessary preventive measures are adopted to minimize the risk of fire incidents and reduce potential loss of life and property.
