Doiwala Seat Heats Up as BJP, Congress Leaders Begin Race for 2027 Assembly Ticket

Doiwala – The political atmosphere in Uttarakhand’s Doiwala Assembly constituency is beginning to heat up well ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections, with several leaders from both the BJP and Congress actively positioning themselves for a party ticket.

Considered a BJP stronghold, Doiwala is currently represented by BJP MLA Brij Bhushan Gairola. However, multiple leaders within the party have intensified their public outreach, raising speculation over whether the BJP will retain faith in its sitting legislator or introduce a new face in the upcoming election.

Among the prominent BJP leaders seen strengthening their presence in the constituency are MLA Brij Bhushan Gairola, state general secretary Deepti Rawat Bhardwaj, BJP Mahila Morcha state president Ruchi Bhatt, Colonel Ajay Kothiyal, and district president Rajendra Tadiyal. Several other party leaders are also making efforts to establish their claim for the ticket.

Doiwala has largely remained a BJP bastion since the formation of Uttarakhand. The party won the Assembly elections in 2002, 2007, 2012, 2017, and 2022, while Congress secured the seat only in the 2014 by-election.

In 2002 and 2007, Trivendra Singh Rawat defeated Congress candidate Virendra Mohan Uniyal. In 2012, Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank won the seat before vacating it after being elected to Parliament. The subsequent 2014 by-election saw Congress candidate Hira Singh Bisht defeat Trivendra Singh Rawat by 6,512 votes, marking Congress’ only victory from the constituency. BJP regained the seat in 2017 when Trivendra Rawat defeated Hira Singh Bisht by 24,869 votes. In the 2022 Assembly election, Brij Bhushan Gairola defeated Congress candidate Gaurav Chaudhary by 29,021 votes.

The Congress has also stepped up preparations for the next election, with several leaders becoming increasingly active in the constituency. District president Mohit Uniyal, Block Pramukh Gaurav Chaudhary, Ashwini Bahuguna, and Manoj Nautiyal are among those strengthening their public connect ahead of the ticket selection process.

Gaurav Chaudhary had contested the 2022 Assembly election on a Congress ticket but was defeated, while Hira Singh Bisht represented the party in 2017. Party insiders also suggest that senior Congress leader Harak Singh Rawat could be considered for Doiwala, as he has indicated his willingness to contest from any constituency assigned by the party.
