SIR: Dehradun Records Highest Voter Deletions, Polling Booths Increased; DM Invites Suggestions on Draft Roll

Dehradun: Dehradun has recorded the highest number of voter deletions in Uttarakhand during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls. Around 1.89 lakh voters have been removed from the draft electoral roll, while the number of polling stations in the district has increased from 1,882 to 2,045.

District Magistrate and District Election Officer Dr. Ashish Chauhan chaired a meeting with representatives of recognized political parties and distributed the draft electoral rolls, ASD voter list, service voter list, and polling station details in both hard copy and digital format. He urged all political parties to carefully examine the draft rolls and immediately inform the administration of any discrepancies or errors.

According to the draft electoral roll, Dehradun has 11,90,805 registered voters, including 9,369 service voters and 10,130 persons with disabilities (PwD). The administration has also completed the deployment of Electoral Registration Officers and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers for all 10 Assembly constituencies in the district.

The Election Commission has fixed July 14 to August 13 as the period for filing claims and objections related to the electoral roll. Eligible citizens whose names are missing or require corrections can submit applications through their Booth Level Officer (BLO), Electoral Registration Officer, Assistant Electoral Registration Officer, or online via the Election Commission’s website and mobile application.

Officials said all claims and objections will be disposed of by September 11, while the final electoral roll will be published on September 15.

During the meeting, the District Magistrate also reviewed the appointment of Booth Level Agents (BLA-2) by political parties. He informed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has not appointed BLA-2 at 35 polling stations, the Indian National Congress at 103 polling stations, and CPI(M) at 1,394 polling stations. Meanwhile, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) are yet to appoint BLA-2 at any polling station in the district.

The administration has appealed to political parties and voters to actively participate in the verification process to ensure an accurate and error-free electoral roll ahead of its final publication.
