A shocking daylight robbery was reported from Garhwali Colony in Dehradun’s Raipur area, where two miscreants allegedly posed as municipal corporation employees, entered the house of an elderly woman, tied her up, assaulted her, and fled with gold jewellery and cash. Police have launched an investigation after receiving a complaint from the victim’s family.
According to the complaint filed at Raipur Police Station, Geeta Kala stated that her mother, Bhuvneshwari Devi, was alone at home when the incident occurred on Sunday, July 19, between 2 pm and 2:30 pm. The two accused introduced themselves as municipal corporation employees and asked the elderly woman to show her Aadhaar card, gaining entry into the house.
Once inside, the accused allegedly switched off the CCTV cameras installed at the residence and snatched the woman’s mobile phone. They then demanded cash. When she resisted, the men tied her hands and mouth, physically assaulted her, and left her with injuries to her hands and legs.
The accused allegedly escaped with gold earrings, a gold ring, and around ₹3,000 in cash kept inside the house.
After receiving information about the incident, the victim’s family approached Raipur Police Station and lodged a complaint, demanding strict action against the culprits. Police have started examining CCTV footage from nearby locations and are working to identify and trace the accused.
The daylight robbery has created panic among residents of Garhwali Colony. Police have appealed to the public not to allow unknown individuals into their homes without verifying their identity, even if they claim to be employees of a government department.
