Dehradun: A one-day seminar on the importance of mental health was organised at the Uttarakhand Open University campus in Dehradun on Tuesday, August 18, 2026. The event was jointly organised by the National Association of Professional Social Workers and the Uttarakhand Open University campus, Dehradun.
The seminar began with the lighting of a ceremonial lamp and floral tribute before Goddess Saraswati. In-charge Director Dr Subhash Ramola welcomed the guests by presenting them with bouquets.
The keynote speaker, Vimal Raturi, said awareness about mental health has become increasingly important. He said the influence of social media, loneliness, excessive academic pressure on children and comparisons with others are contributing to mental health challenges.
Raturi stressed that parents need to remain particularly aware of the pressure faced by children and should avoid placing unnecessary academic burdens on them.
In-charge Director Dr Subhash Ramola said good mental health is essential for the overall development of society. He emphasised the need to give greater attention to mental well-being alongside other aspects of social development.
Programme coordinator Dr Bhawna Dobhal thanked the invited guests and participants, calling for a commitment to maintaining both mental and physical well-being.
The programme was conducted by Dr Narendra Jagudi, who expressed concern over the increasing cases of mental distress. He said the government should take necessary steps to address the growing issue and strengthen awareness and support systems.
Assistant Professor Mukesh Kumar Yadav provided information about the mental health curriculum included in programmes related to special education offered by the university.
Brijmohan Khati, Kundan, Ajay Singh, Abhishek and several university learners were also present at the seminar.
