Dehradun: The special phase of the Census in Uttarakhand’s snow-bound and remote areas will begin on Tuesday, with census personnel set to conduct door-to-door data collection in 131 villages across Chamoli, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag and Pithoragarh.
The exercise will also cover the Badrinath, Kedarnath and Gangotri Nagar Panchayat areas. A total of 182 personnel, including 139 enumerators and 43 supervisors, have been trained and deployed for the exercise.
According to the Census Directorate, the special campaign will cover 23 villages under Badrinath Nagar Panchayat in Chamoli, four villages under Kedarnath Nagar Panchayat in Rudraprayag, 69 villages in Uttarkashi and 35 villages in Pithoragarh.
The administration has coordinated with the concerned district authorities and local bodies to ensure the smooth conduct of the Census. Special preparations have also been made considering the difficult terrain and weather conditions in these areas.
87 Enumerators Deployed in Uttarkashi
Uttarkashi has the largest deployment, with 87 enumerators and 23 supervisors assigned to the Census exercise.
Chamoli has 28 enumerators and 10 supervisors, while Pithoragarh has 18 enumerators and four supervisors. Rudraprayag has six enumerators and six supervisors.
The personnel will record information through digital systems, identify enumeration areas and ensure the accuracy and confidentiality of the collected data.
338 Citizens Complete Self-Enumeration
According to the Census Directorate, 338 citizens had registered their information through self-enumeration by August 31.
Of these, 277 were from Uttarkashi, 29 from Chamoli, 24 from Pithoragarh and eight from Rudraprayag.
The self-enumeration facility is part of the digital process being used for the Census.
Census Officials Warn Public Against OTP Fraud –
The Census Directorate has also issued a public warning that census personnel will not ask citizens for OTPs during the exercise.
Citizens have been advised not to share OTPs or financial information with unknown persons claiming to be associated with the Census.
Director of Census Eva Ashish Srivastava appealed to citizens to cooperate with the enumerators during the door-to-door exercise.
