Dehradun: Work Begins to Underground 930 km of Power Lines

In a major infrastructure upgrade, 930 km of power lines in Dehradun will be shifted underground in the new year. The project, initiated by Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) under the Asian Development Bank (ADB) scheme, has been divided into three phases for efficient execution.

According to UPCL Managing Director Anil Kumar, the project has been prioritized on the directives of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. The plan involves undergrounding 92 km of 33 kV lines, 230 km of 11 kV lines, and 608 km of LT lines. Permissions for road cutting have been secured, and the work is progressing in a phased manner.

High-priority areas like Coronation Hospital, Doon Hospital, Mahant Indiresh Hospital, IMA Blood Bank, and Kailash Hospital are being addressed first.

Division of Work Across Three Lots

  • Lot 1: Dilarm Chowk to Mussoorie Diversion, Darshanlal Chowk to Prince Chowk, Kishan Nagar Chowk to Ramada Hotel, and nearby areas.
  • Lot 2: Ramada Hotel to Ballupur Chowk, Lakkhibagh to Graphic Era Chowk, and other regions.
  • Lot 3: Vidhan Sabha area to Rispana Bridge, Mayur Vihar to IT Park, IT Park to Krishali Chowk, and adjoining areas.

This project aims to provide a safer and more organized power supply in Dehradun.
