This year, the prestigious Prime Minister’s National Child Award will be presented on December 26, coinciding with Veer Bal Diwas, instead of the traditional Republic Day on January 26. President Droupadi Murmu will honor the awardees at a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Later, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will interact with the children at Bharat Mandapam.
Significance of Veer Bal Diwas
Veer Bal Diwas, observed annually on December 26, commemorates the martyrdom of Guru Gobind Singh’s sons, Baba Zorawar Singh (9 years) and Baba Fateh Singh (5 years). In 1705, the two young boys were entombed alive by Wazir Khan for refusing to renounce their faith. Prime Minister Modi introduced this observance in 2022 to honor their sacrifice.
Redefining Bravery
The government has broadened the definition of bravery to include acts of kindness, innovation, and inspirational contributions to society alongside courageous feats. The initiative aims to recognize the multifaceted talents of children and inspire the younger generation. Union Minister Annapurna Devi highlighted that the award celebrates children who have set exemplary standards of determination and bravery.
