The nomination process for the municipal elections in Uttarakhand began on Friday across 100 urban local bodies. Starting at 10 a.m., candidates can file their nominations until 5 p.m. on December 30. District election officials have finalized all preparations for the process.
According to the State Election Commission, candidates must submit a background affidavit along with their nomination forms. This affidavit will include details such as educational qualifications, any criminal cases, and other relevant information. These details will be made public through the district election office to ensure transparency for voters.
The scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on December 31 and January 1, while January 2 has been set aside for withdrawal of nominations. The final list of candidates will be released, and election symbols will be allotted on January 3. Voting will be held on January 23 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the counting of votes beginning at 8 a.m. on January 25.
Strict monitoring of election expenditures has also been planned. For the first time, expenditure observers have been appointed, and assistant expenditure supervisors will be deployed at the district level to enforce the increased spending limits set by the commission.
