The 38th National Games are set to commence in Uttarakhand in just 17 days. A total of 9728 athletes and 15613 participants, including technical and support staff, will be part of this historic event. The opening ceremony is scheduled for January 28 at Dehradun’s Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, with the closing event on February 14 at Haldwani’s Gaulapar International Sports Complex.
Preparations for the Event
For the first time, eight districts in Uttarakhand are hosting the games, with infrastructure and stadiums ready for action. Dehradun will host the maximum of 16 sporting disciplines, followed by other districts as outlined:
- Haridwar: 3 events
- Tehri: 7 events
- Udham Singh Nagar: 6 events
- Nainital: 9 events
- Champawat, Almora, Pithoragarh: 1 event each
Distribution of Athletes and Staff
The allocation of athletes and staff across districts includes:
- Dehradun: 4444 athletes, 7123 total staff
- Haridwar: 840 athletes, 1241 total staff
- Haldwani: 2100 athletes, 3405 total staff
Other districts will host a range of events with similar distributions.
Sports Highlights by District
Dehradun will feature major events like squash, archery, shooting, basketball, and athletics. Haridwar will host hockey, kabaddi, and wrestling, while Tehri and New Tehri are set for water sports like canoeing and rowing.
