Uttarakhand will conduct municipal elections on Thursday across 1,516 polling centers and 3,394 polling booths. Over 18,000 security personnel have been deployed to ensure peaceful elections, including 1,120 police officers, 24 PAC companies, 4,352 home guards, 2,550 PRD personnel, and 300 forest department employees. Special attention is being given to sensitive and highly sensitive locations.
According to DGP Deepam Seth, 592 sensitive and 412 highly sensitive locations have heightened security measures. Among 185 checkpoints, 117 are under CCTV surveillance, while the rest are covered through video monitoring. Additionally, 105 mobile teams and 109 Quick Response Teams (QRTs) are on standby.
Police Actions So Far
Ahead of the elections, the police have seized illegal liquor worth ₹89.50 lakh, registered 591 cases, and arrested 603 smugglers. Drugs worth over ₹13 crore have also been confiscated, leading to 301 arrests.
As part of the security measures, 11,196 licensed weapons have been surrendered, and around 9,000 individuals have been bonded under preventive measures. Authorities have executed 1,255 non-bailable warrants and apprehended 124 absconding criminals. Action under the Goonda Act has been taken against 204 individuals.
