After Chamoli, an avalanche has now struck Uttarkashi, blocking the Gangotri Highway near Dabirani. On Friday afternoon, heavy snow and boulders fell from the mountain, completely obstructing the road. According to police, continuous snowfall in high-altitude areas caused loose snow, debris, and rocks to tumble onto the highway, reaching the Bhagirathi River. Fortunately, no vehicles were present at the time, preventing a major accident.
Traffic Halted, Vehicles Turned Back
Due to the road blockage, vehicles are being stopped at Bhatwari and sent back. BRO teams have been deployed to clear the debris, but continuous rain and falling rocks are hampering the operations. As a safety measure, authorities have completely halted vehicle movement beyond Bhatwari.
