Nepali Worker Dies in Rudraprayag During Road Construction, Contractor Booked

A 56-year-old Nepali worker, Bhakt Bahadur, lost his life after being buried under debris during road construction on the under-construction Tonidali-Kakdagad road in Kedarnath Assembly Constituency, Rudraprayag. Authorities have filed a case against the contractor, alleging negligence in safety measures.

Lack of Safety Measures Led to Tragedy

The incident occurred late Sunday night during the road-cutting work. Upon investigation, the District Disaster Management Officer found that the construction was proceeding without proper lighting and safety arrangements. Following the tragic incident, the District Magistrate directed legal action against the contractor, Yashwant Singh Negi. Consequently, a case has been registered at the Ukhimath Police Station.

Slow Progress Hampers Highway Connectivity

The construction of the Tonidali-Kakdagad road has been progressing at a sluggish pace, frequently impacting the Rudraprayag-Gaurikund Highway. Notably, the highway remained closed for an entire day on February 27 and 28 due to ongoing construction activities.
