Haridwar – The Uttarakhand government has outlined its strategy for the Haridwar Corridor project. In a meeting held Thursday at Damkothi, Principal Secretary R. Meenakshi Sundaram met with trade bodies and other stakeholders to share key details. He clarified that the corridor development will not affect Upper Road or Bada Bazaar. Only Janhvi Market will be relocated, and its shopkeepers and tenants will be offered shops with ownership rights or financial compensation.
Bus Stand Relocation and New Complex for Affected Vendors
The current bus stand will be shifted to a new ISBT location near Chandi Devi Temple. A dedicated complex will be built for those affected by the removal of Janhvi Market. Authorities have directed that inputs from traders and tenants be incorporated into the final plan.
Beautification of Har Ki Pauri and Sati Kund
Under the corridor project, Har Ki Pauri and Sati Kund will undergo beautification. At Sati Kund, a white lotus will be placed amid five goddess statues symbolizing Shakti. Miniature forms of various Shakti Peeths will also be installed.
Government Assures Fair Relocation
The Principal Secretary assured stakeholders that no shop will be forcefully removed. If relocation is necessary, affected vendors will first be allotted shops in the newly developed shopping complex. The meeting was attended by representatives of Akhara Parishad, Shri Ganga Sabha General Secretary Tanmay Vashisht, District Magistrate Karmendra Singh, SSP Pramendra Singh Dobal, and Municipal Commissioner Varun Chaudhary.
