Free CT Scan Facility Now Available in Every UP District; User Charges Abolished in Six Districts

The Uttar Pradesh government has announced that CT scan services will now be provided free of cost in all districts. Until now, patients in six districts—Lucknow, Agra, Gorakhpur, Kushinagar, Moradabad, and Raebareli—were required to pay a ₹500 user charge for the scan under the Rogi Kalyan Nidhi. This charge has now been abolished, aligning with the state’s push for fully free diagnostic services at district hospitals.

Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak confirmed the development, stating that CT scans will now be included in the list of free diagnostic services such as pathology, X-rays, and ultrasound at all district hospitals.

Additionally, 12 medical colleges and two specialized institutions in Kanpur will receive a combined ₹464.70 lakh for purchasing essential medical equipment and improving safety infrastructure. The allocation includes ₹33.5 lakh for each medical college and ₹31 lakh for JK Cancer Institute.

The benefitting institutions include medical colleges in Agra, Kanpur, Prayagraj, Meerut, Jhansi, Gorakhpur, Banda, Azamgarh, Saharanpur, Ambedkar Nagar, Jalaun, Kannauj, and Badaun, along with the LPS Institute of Cardiology and JK Cancer Institute in Kanpur. The funds have already been sanctioned to enhance patient care and ensure the availability of necessary medical tools.
