State Human Rights Commission Reorganized, 12 New Posts to Be Created

The Uttarakhand government has approved the restructuring of the State Human Rights Commission, paving the way for the creation of 12 new posts. This move is expected to improve the efficiency of the commission and expedite the resolution of pending cases.

With the addition of new positions, the commission will be better equipped to take timely and effective action on human rights complaints. The decision is seen as a significant step toward strengthening human rights protection mechanisms in the state.

The State Human Rights Commission was established in 2011 with 47 sanctioned posts. However, despite a steady increase in public complaints and responsibilities over the past 11 years, the organizational structure remained unchanged. The rising number of complaints had started to affect the day-to-day functioning of the commission.

Recognizing the need for enhanced capacity, the state cabinet has now approved the proposal to restructure the commission’s framework. The expansion is expected to provide much-needed support to the commission’s staff and enable quicker redressal of human rights violations.
