STF Saves Man from Suicide with Meta’s Help in Uttarakhand

The Special Task Force (STF) of Uttarakhand, in collaboration with Haridwar Police and Meta (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp), saved a man from committing suicide, marking yet another success in its ongoing campaign to support people in distress. The STF thanked Meta for its timely intervention and revealed that similar efforts in the past have saved many lives.

Acting on Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s directives, STF has been taking strict action against cybercrime and keeping a close watch on distress signals on social media. Senior Superintendent of Police Navneet Singh and his team are proactively monitoring cyber and social media activity for any signs of self-harm or suicidal ideation.

On June 19, Meta alerted the STF via call and email from the USA regarding a distressing post by a person (name changed to Rajesh) indicating suicidal intent on Instagram. Acting swiftly, ASI Mukesh Chand of Dehradun Cyber Crime Unit and constable Nitin Ramola coordinated with the Haridwar control room and successfully located and saved the individual.

The man later confessed he was dealing with severe family issues and had shared the post in a moment of desperation. Police counselled him and urged him never to take such a step again.
