PM Modi to Visit Ghana, Namibia, and Attend BRICS Summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on a multi-nation diplomatic tour that includes Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, Brazil, and Namibia. According to Economic Relations Secretary Dammu Ravi, PM Modi will visit Ghana on July 2–3, marking the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the country in 30 years. The visit comes after President John Dramani Mahama’s recent electoral win and will focus on enhancing bilateral economic cooperation, particularly in agriculture, vaccine development in West Africa, defense ties, digital infrastructure, and critical mineral exploration.

India and Ghana currently maintain $3 billion in bilateral trade, heavily driven by gold imports. Agreements on key sectors are expected to be signed during the visit.

On July 9, PM Modi will travel to Namibia, making him the first Indian PM to visit the country in 27 years. India and Namibia share strategic ties across development projects, defense cooperation, IT training, and wildlife conservation. Notably, Namibia contributed cheetahs to India’s Kuno National Park under a joint conservation project. The nations are also expanding collaboration in critical minerals such as uranium, copper, cobalt, rare earth elements, lithium, and graphite.

PM Modi will also attend the 17th BRICS Summit in Brazil on July 6–7, which will focus on “Strengthening Global South Cooperation for Inclusive and Sustainable Governance.” India will chair BRICS in 2026.

Separately, on July 3–4, PM Modi will make a historic visit to Trinidad and Tobago—the first by an Indian PM since 1999. The invitation came from former PM Kamla Persad-Bissessar. The visit coincides with the 180th anniversary of Indian migration to the Caribbean nation, whose President and PM are both of Indian origin. The trip highlights India’s strong cultural ties with the Indian diaspora.
