Heavy rainfall has severely disrupted life across Uttarakhand, prompting the temporary suspension of the Kedarnath Yatra and causing significant damage in several districts. In Srinagar Garhwal, water entered homes in Bhaktiyana (Ward 29) near NIT after intense overnight rainfall. Locals blamed clogged drains along the national highway for the flooding. One resident, Bhaskar Raturi, reported discovering water inside his home as early as 4 AM.
The India Meteorological Department had issued yellow alerts for parts of Dehradun, Champawat, and Nainital, with expectations of widespread downpours across hilly regions.
Pilgrims en route to Kedarnath faced setbacks as torrential rains disrupted the route beyond Gaurikund, forcing authorities to temporarily halt the yatra as a precaution. Meanwhile, near Yamunotri Dham, the Phoolchatti-Jankichatti road collapsed at Phoolchatti, leaving dozens of vehicles with pilgrims and locals stranded on both sides.
According to Jankichatti police post in-charge Gambhir Singh Tomar, movement of large vehicles including buses and tempo travellers has been suspended. Even smaller vehicles are facing significant risk due to the unstable road conditions. Despite earlier media alerts highlighting poor infrastructure, authorities have reportedly failed to act in time to prevent this disruption.
