Raja Raghuvanshi Murder Case: Police to File Chargesheet by August End

The Meghalaya police have announced a major update in the Raja Raghuvanshi murder case. Officials confirmed that the chargesheet against the prime accused Sonam Raghuvanshi, Raj Kushwaha, and five others will be filed by the end of August.

Police stated that the chargesheet will be submitted well ahead of the three-month deadline from their June arrest. All five accused remain in judicial custody. Additional Public Prosecutor Tushar Chandra said the investigation is nearly complete, and the accused will be presented in court again on August 27 or 28.

Apart from Sonam and Raj Kushwaha, the police have arrested three alleged accomplices — Anand Singh Kurmi, Akash Rajput, and Vishal Singh Chauhan. Meanwhile, three co-accused, property owner L. Tomar, dealer Silom James, and security guard Balbir Ahirwar, have been granted bail.

The case drew widespread outrage after Indore-based businessman Raja Raghuvanshi, who had married Sonam on May 11, 2024, went missing during their honeymoon in Meghalaya. On June 2, his mutilated body was recovered from a deep gorge in Sohra (Cherrapunji), making it one of the most brutal murders reported in the state in recent years.
