Preparations for the Delhi Assembly elections are in their final stages, with the Election Commission expected to announce the poll dates soon. Sources indicate the announcement could take place between January 6 and 10, following the completion of the voter list revision on December 24 and the publication of the final voter list on January 6. However, the Chief Electoral Officer’s office has yet to confirm these dates officially.
The current term of the Delhi Assembly ends on February 23, 2025, necessitating elections before that date. In the previous elections, the poll dates were announced on January 6, 2020. Based on the minimum 35-day election process timeline, an announcement between January 6 and 10 would facilitate smooth scheduling.
Additionally, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar is set to retire on February 18, 2024, prompting the Election Commission to aim for completing the election process before February. The commission has already conducted meetings and reviewed preparations with political parties and relevant officials.
