PM Modi Assam visit: launches bamboo-based ethanol plant and ₹12,000 crore projects

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated a bamboo-based ethanol plant at Numaligarh and unveiled several major projects worth over ₹12,000 crore during his Assam visit. The newly opened facility, built at an investment of more than ₹5,000 crore, will produce 50 KTPA of fuel-grade ethanol from bamboo, officials said. PM Modi also laid the foundation stone for a petro fluidized catalytic cracker unit valued at about ₹7,230 crore that aims to produce 360 KTPA of propylene, boosting the plastics value chain.

The PM began his programme in Mangaldoi and later reached Numaligarh, where he addressed public meetings despite heavy rain. He praised the people of Assam for their resolve, recalled his “Operation Sindoor” recovery and said he felt the blessings of Maa Kamakhya. Modi reiterated the Centre’s commitment to the region, saying, “I am with you; the Government of India stands with the people of Manipur and the Northeast,” and underlined that development and peace must go hand in hand.

Officials noted that the Numaligarh projects will spur local infrastructure, generate jobs and support industrial growth. The announcements also included health and education inaugurations in Darrang and further infrastructure and industrial investments planned across the state. Central and state leaders joined the PM at ceremonial events as agreements and project packages were signed to strengthen bilateral and regional cooperation.
