The Election Commission of India (ECI) has amended election rules to make Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) clearer and more voter-friendly. Under the revised provisions of Rule 49B of the Conduct of Election Rules, 1961, EVMs will now display candidates’ names, election symbols, and their colored photographs.
The new system will be implemented first in the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections. Along with this, ballot papers will feature candidate serial numbers in a bolder and more prominent format to avoid confusion for voters.
