Nainital – With a sharp increase in weekend tourist traffic in Nainital, the district administration and police have introduced new traffic regulations to reduce congestion. Starting this weekend, taxi drivers will not be allowed to drive through Mall Road towards Tallital. Instead, all tourist taxis will be diverted via DSB–Raj Bhawan Road to reach Tallital. The police department conducted a trial run on Saturday, which was reported successful, and the rule will now be enforced from the upcoming weekend.
The decision was taken due to ongoing construction work on Mall Road and heavy traffic pressure during weekends. After the lower Mall Road was damaged recently, vehicle load shifted to upper Mall Road, leading to serious traffic jams. Officials observed that taxi drivers often stop on the road to pick up passengers, further escalating congestion.
