In a tragic incident on Friday afternoon, two teenagers drowned while bathing in the Sirota River near Kakrighat in Nainital district. The victims, both 18 years old, were residents of Ghinghari village in Almora and had come to the river with friends.
According to eyewitnesses, Yogesh Bora (18), son of Balam Singh, and Karan Singh (18), son of Thakur Singh, ventured into deeper waters while bathing. Their friends Aman Singh and Shubham Bora said they tried to rescue them but failed due to the river’s depth.
Local residents were alerted immediately, and a joint rescue effort began. However, despite their efforts, the bodies of both boys could not be located for some time. Ranikhet Police and the local revenue department team arrived at the scene shortly after being informed and, with the help of locals, recovered the bodies from the river.
The sudden incident has left the village in shock. Locals have urged visitors and youth to exercise caution while bathing in the river, especially during peak flow hours, as the area is known for its unpredictable depths.
