Panic gripped residents after a tusker entered a residential area of Haridwar and damaged a scooter parked along the roadside. The incident took place in the Jagjitpur area on Thursday night when the elephant moved through narrow lanes before being pushed back towards the Ganga by the Forest Department team.
According to local sources, the elephant reached the populated zone from the Shyampur side. During its movement, it lifted and threw a scooter standing near the road, causing visible damage. The sudden presence of the animal in residential streets created fear among families living in the area.
Jagjitpur, Missarpur, Katarpur, Football Ground locality and Bairagi Dweep are known as part of an old elephant corridor. Movement of elephants in these areas has been reported frequently throughout the year. Residents say the situation has now become routine, with elephants often entering in search of food.
Forest officials stated that monitoring teams are deployed during both day and night to track elephant activity. However, repeated intrusions raise concerns about the effectiveness of preventive measures. In earlier instances, vehicles have also been damaged after elephants turned aggressive.
