Two men were killed after being trampled by a herd of elephants in the Tanda forest area late at night while returning home on an electric scooter. The victims, identified as Jafar and Shakeel, were relatives and originally from Shahjahanpur in Uttar Pradesh.
According to initial information, both were returning after completing their daily rounds when their battery-operated scooter reportedly collided with a herd of elephants in the forest stretch. The impact caused them to fall, following which the elephants attacked them. Forest officials said the herd included calves, which may have made the animals more aggressive.
Jafar, who lived in Rudrapur, died on the spot. Shakeel, a resident of Haldwani, was rushed to hospital but succumbed to his injuries on the way. Their bodies were later found lying in the forest area.
Family members said Jafar suffered multiple rib fractures in the attack. Shakeel sustained severe injuries, with blood reportedly flowing from both ears. His chest was crushed, his left side of the face was badly swollen, and his left eye suffered serious damage due to the force of the elephant’s foot
